Donating Goods In Southeastern Michigan

Donating goods to local causes is mutually beneficial for you and your family, as well as your charity of choice! There are many ways in this world to give back and this is a simple one. If you donate your gently or never used goods to a legitimate 501c3 in Michigan, you will also receive a tax deduction. Make sure to ask for a receipt for your goods when you drop them off.

Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit – Donating Goods

Goodwill is my charity of choice for donating goods. First, because it is convenient. They have drive through drop-off locations in Livonia, Canton and Dearborn. It may seem like Goodwill is a thrift store, but actually they are all about jobs. Their goal is to give those with employment challenges a hand up and get them back to work in Metro Detroit. Pretty cool, huh?

Purple Heart – Donating Goods

Purple Heart is a great option because you can drop off your items or schedule a convenient pick up at your home! They work to raise funds to provide services for combat wounded US Veterans. This includes treatment programs, home nursing care, job assistance, and education training. Purple Heart does not take furniture or appliances, so keep that in mind.

Gleaners Community Food Bank – Donating Goods

Not all of the extra things in our homes are household items. We often have canned goods and non-perishables that pile up in our pantry or cupboards. Don’t let these expire! Donate them to Gleaners and they will no longer be a waste!

Your Local Church or Community Center – Donating Goods

Sometimes the most rewarding way to donate your gently used goods is to a church or community organization you feel close to or are connected with. It is easy to take for granted all of things we own or have bought. Keep in mind that there are people in need all around you. By donating to an individual person you are making a big impact, but keep in mind you may not get a tax write off so you may want to consider that as you make your decisions.
