Halloween Savings Ideas For Your Family

Halloween is one of those holidays that creeps up on me. Not only does it ring in the holiday season and signal the beginning of the end of the year, it also costs me a lot of money. Truth be told, I don’t even have kids yet, so it is cheaper for me than many. But just passing out candy in my neighborhood, contributing to a potluck at work and going to one party has cost me a couple hundred dollars!

The expenses are dependent on your family, your lifestyle and your interests. How much you participate in this “fun” holiday, is really up to you and seems to vary widely between families. My neighborhood goes all out for Halloween. Candy at almost every house, people with coolers in the driveway, music and more! We spent $100 on candy last year and ran out. I am not very interested in dressing up. So this year we bought a skeleton hoodie ($50) and skeleton t-shirt ($20) and called it a day.

This brings me to my first tip:

Buy Used Costumes And Re-Sell When You Are Done – Halloween Tips

Nothing wrong with this one! Places like Facebook Marketplace and Ebay are great places for me to re-sell the costumes I wore one time. I also recommend making or putting together your own costume from pieces new, used, borrowed or that you already have. The price on pre-packaged costumes blows my mind and most of the time they don’t include accessories!

Purchase Candy On Sale Ahead Of Time – Halloween Tips

I am not suggesting that you buy it the year before or use Easter candy or anything like that. However, we all know the prices go up once October hits. There is nothing wrong with buying candy in late summer to stock up. Most processed and conventional candy has a generous shelf life.

Borrow, Plan and Choose Your Investment…Resist Pressure

This is just a reminder to plan ahead of time and if you can’t spend a lot, it’s totally fine! I know people who feel pressure to have the best costume, give in to every whim of their child or bring the best snacks to the party. Decide what you can afford for this holiday and stick to your guns. After all, isn’t creativity “king” on this holiday?!
