Numerico goes to Traverse City

Traverse City is a quick weekend getaway that is perfect to end summer with. I recently visited and want to share my favorite spots for your next trip!

Where to Stay: Grand Beach Resort

When to Go: While Traverse City is beautiful in the warm summer months, it comes with crowds and expensive hotel rates! I would love to visit in the fall to see trees changing colors.

What to Visit:

  1. Sleeping Bear Dunes: Located about 30mins outside of Traverse City, it is a cheap and beautiful spot! It costs $10 for a one week pass to the park. We climbed the dunes (be prepared for a workout!) and did the Scenic Drive. I would love to have hiked if we had more time!
  2. Wineries: We visited Chateau Chantal, located on the Old Mission Peninsula. While I did not enjoy most of the wines, the scenery is beautiful and it is located only 20mins from Traverse City. Next time I visit I plan to check out some wineries on the Leelanau Peninsula.
  3. Mission Point Lighthouse: This was a beautiful quick stop we made after the winery. It is free to go on the first floor of the lighthouse, but costs about $5 to go upstairs. The lighthouse is on a really beautiful and clean beach. It seemed that most of the people were swimming instead of visiting the lighthouse!

Where to Eat:

  1. The Little Fleet: This collection of food carts is really fun and offers options for all taste buds. The prices are reasonably cheap, and you are able to eat there or take it back with you!
  2. Seven Monks: This bar has more of a beer menu than a food menu, but offers delicious pub type food at a reasonable price!
