Suggestions For Setting Up Your May Budget

Each month has its own special financial circumstances, and May is no different! It’s important to assess the plans, holidays and seasonal implications of each month before you commit your money to anything. When I analyze a month I am always surprised by how many things change my budget. So here are some suggestions for setting up your May budget!

Holidays – Suggestions For Setting Up Your May Budget

In May you have at least Mother’s Day and Memorial Day to consider. In my family, Mother’s Day means a gift for mom and grandma. Memorial Day means an outing to our friend’s boat or a BBQ. While it’s likely that none of these cost a vast amount of money, they can certainly swing your budget at least $100. Take these into consideration so you don’t feel the pinch when the time comes!

Graduations & Weddings

Some years this is more painful than others! While I love a good celebration, these things can cost you. Last year I had two weddings and four graduation parties! That really adds up. I recommend being picky when agreeing to events. It is okay to RSVP no if you don’t have the money in your budget. Don’t attend these events out of guilt!

Summer Expenses – Suggestions For Setting Up Your May Budget

This one is different for everyone, but would include the following items:

  • Summer landscaping
  • Opening of your pool
  • Summer daycare costs
  • Camp
  • Snacks or other food for kids at home
  • A summer vacation or weekend trips

In Closing…

Each month, take the opportunity to assess your budget for each individual month and its scheduled events. Doing so can save you from anxiety when a cost comes up. It is a wonderful feeling to tell your money where to go and to be prepared when expenses arise!
