Generating sales is an obvious goal for most small businesses as we kick off 2017! This means something different for each business based on the industry you are in. Since we can’t go into all of the specifics, we will focus on some broad themes for generating sales this year.

Referrals – Generating Sales

Nothing is better than a great referral. This may be word-of-mouth from one of your loyal clients or customers. Maybe it is the result of a promotion or a bonus that a customer received from sending someone new your way. We can bet you that this new referral stemmed from you simply asking. Don’t be afraid to ask the customers that you appreciate to refer their friends and family to your small business. This works for a small grocery store, a salon or spa, and for an accounting firm! There is no greater compliment than telling your client you would love more customers just like them.

Promotions & Marketing – Generating Sales

Maybe it isn’t all about generating a new customer. Maybe the goal is to maximize the services or products that each of your current customers purchase or use. In this case, a promotion or a new marketing campaign may be in order. Make sure your client base knows about all of the services or products you offer. Use a campaign to show them how your small business can simplify their life. This may include a discount on something new!

Training – Generating Sales

If every single person who walks into or calls your small business receives the very best customer service everyone wins. The potential customer wins, you win and everyone on your team wins. Sometimes generating sales comes down to training your front line, your sales people, or shifting your culture to be customer-focused. Try taking a look at your business through a new client’s perspective. What do they hear when they call? What do they see when they walk in?
