Ann Arbor Transit Expansion

Ann Arbor is looking to expand the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority and they are seeking advice from city dwellers. It was recently decided that Ypsilanti Township should also have a say in the outcome. There will be upcoming community forums to provide the opportunity for people to voice their concerns, opinions and support of the project since it may include new property tax.

The tax would be voted on in each area that is an official member of the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority. The tax could raise an estimated $3.2 million in Ann Arbor which would be added to the $9 million+ that Ann Arbor residents already pay for city transit.

Service would be enhanced by offering more access, adding destinations, increasing frequency and redesigning routes for better and more stream lined service.  Although Ypsilanti Township will now be included, there is strong concern among Ann Arbor residents that the burden of cost will fall on them. This is part of the reason that the community forums have been planned and will give ample opportunity to ask questions on this matter. Many residents are concerned that the decision is being rushed.

All in all the Ann Arbor Area Transit Authority is focused on improving services for residents and the many people that visit the beautiful City of Ann Arbor. What do you think?
