Hobbies That Don’t Cost Too Much To Fit Your Budget

Some of the most enjoyable events in my life have come by way of my hobbies! Other than my family and friends, hobbies have enriched my life the most. One drawback of my hobbies and interest is how much money I have spent on them. Today I will suggest some hobbies that don’t cost much and can easily fit into your family’s budget.

Three Hobbies That Won’t Break The Bank

  1. Reading: This one used to cost me a lot. I would rip through books quickly and immediately download another one. When I saw how much I spent over a year I decided to cut back. Instead of impulsively buying a book, I started to make a list of books I wanted to read. This helped me to be more thoughtful and purposeful about what I bought. I also subscribed to a news app and a lifestyle blog so that I could entertain my curiosities with free content. My aunt went and got herself a good old fashioned library card and she always checks there first before downloading. I went from spending $500+ per year to less than $150, while still enjoying reading as one of my favorite hobbies.
  2. Yoga and meditation: I dare say you could almost find enough free content online to practice regularly without paying a cent. If you did want to pay for some specific content, there are several streaming services and also thoughtful books on these subjects. All you need is a mat and you already own some comfy clothes that would likely work. For less than $50 you can be all set to deepen your understanding and stretch your body.
  3. Cooking: I like this one because, although it does cost money, we all need to eat! Anything you make is useful to your family, yourself of loved ones. Anything you want to try, can also be gifted as a blessing to another family or someone in need. There are lots of cooking shows, as well as free recipes, videos and blogs online.

But Can’t These Hobbies Cost a Lot of Money?

Yes, it’s true! Anyone can turn the simplest hobby into a huge expense, and it is definitely something to guard against. I have done this myself with running many moons ago. I made the mistake of buying too much gear, signing up for expensive events and thinking I needed things that I didn’t. Focus on keeping your hobbies simple, practical and enjoyable! Often times when you focus on that, your hobbies will fit into your budget easily!
