May 2018 Activities In Livonia, Michigan

There are so many things to love about our Livonia, Michigan Community! This month we will check out four events that may interest people in your family. When we look over the options, there really is something for everyone. May 2018 is sure to be a memorable month of activities and a whirlwind of events as the school year winds down and we prepare for summer!

May the 4th Be With You

Do you have what it takes to be a Jedi? Join us for May the 4th Be with You from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the Kirksey Recreation Center, 15100 Hubbard.

This Star Wars themed evening will include dinner, a battle between the light and dark side and training from a Jedi Master.  Star Wars characters will demonstrate some of the skills seen in the movies and train family members in Jedi maneuvers and techniques.  We can’t wait to attend the screening of the first movie in the Star Wars original trilogy, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Tickets will be available beginning April 2 and are $12 for Kirksey Recreation Center members, $15 for Livonia residents, and $19 for non-residents. This is a family event and all youth must be accompanied by an adult.

For more information, contact Livonia Parks and Recreation at (734) 466-2900.

Take Pride in Livonia Day

The Annual Take Pride in Livonia day will take place on Saturday, May 5 beginning at 9 a.m.  This special day is designed to spruce up neighborhood parks with the assistance of organizations, families and school groups.

Join us as we continue to improve the quality of life for our residents by focusing on the importance of safety and environmental issues.  Individual groups choose a park and recruit volunteers to clean that park.  We are especially looking to clean up trails through our many nature preserves this year.  Each group will be given trash bags, gloves and encouraged to bring rakes and brooms.

After the clean-up, all volunteers are invited to Ford Field, Farmington at Lyndon, for recycling education from the Greenleaf Commission on Sustainability and a picnic hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department and the Wolverine Sports and Conservation Club.

For more information, contact Livonia Parks and Recreation at (734) 466-2900.

Celebrate the Jack E. Kirksey Recreation Center 15 Year Anniversary and Mercy Elite Grand Re-Opening Sunday, May 6 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Enjoy the pool, climbing wall, and a variety of gym activities. We are looking forward to roller hockey, pickleball, volleyball and basketball.

Guests will be able to learn about organizations and business in their community.

Admission is free for the day for residents and $3 per person for non-residents. The facility will be open normal business hours (7 a.m. to 5 p.m.).  Special events will take place from 12 – 4 p.m.
