Spending More IS Worth It – Three Examples

In our last blog post I described three things that are not worth spending more on. One of my mantras is “to each, their own” but I do believe these are simple and straightforward things to invest or not invest in for all. Today we will cover three things I am GRATEFUL I spent more on.

Furniture – Worth Spending More

Remodeling can kill your budget and long term financial future. Choose things for your home that you truly love and present as “classics” to you. This means things you will love for a long time. For me this means painting my rooms in a neutral way and picking out furniture that fits the space well and long-term. THEN I pick out (less expensive) and fun or trendy accent piece and colors that are easy to change through the years.

Well-made furniture that is the right size for your space and is well-reviewed is important. If you pick something out, but something feels off about it, (the quality, material or size) learn to skip it. Choose pieces that are right and don’t be afraid to save longer and invest in pieces you KNOW will work. I dated a guy who had parents with the same living room furniture for 20 years plus! It was leather, bought at Costco (great guarantee) and still looked great!

Housewares (especially in the kitchen!) – Worth Spending More

There are $300 blenders and $30 blenders. There is a HUGE difference between the two! Not every item is worth more, but I have experienced the differences. Many quality housewares (both small and large appliances) come with great guarantees. Know what you are buying and who you are buying it for. You can find many reviews online these days that can be helpful in choosing the right thing!

Personal Care – Worth Spending More

BETTER INGREDIENTS. Many cosmetic and personal care products are all about the branding and are NOT worth the money. However, what we put on our body, goes IN our body. So better ingredients are likely worth the money. Natural and less processed ingredients are often valuable. Organic ingredients will likely cost more, but the health benefits may pay off.

Your budget will love items with built in warranties and great reviews! Do your homework and understand what you are buying. Sometimes putting our a little more cash in the beginning is worth it in the end. What are your favorite items?
