Team Meetings…Top Three Things To Include
I think most of us have sat through a boring team meeting. No one appreciates sitting and listening to someone read things that could have been emailed. In an effort to keep meetings enjoyable and relevant for everyone, I always include the following things.
Powerful Accomplishments
This is my favorite thing to curate when I am planning out a team meeting. Not only do our team members appreciate being recognized or rewarded, but I love to point out the positives. Some examples of powerful accomplishments could be as “big” as a promotion, or as “small” as a great review left by a customer. Another version of powerful accomplishments is to publicly thank people for going above and beyond. Last, we often give out recognition for certain things done well.
Fresh Perspectives
This would include any new or pertinent information or changed policies. This is the “meat and potatoes” of the meeting. The information I include in these meetings is information that needs to be explained or gone over. If I can send out the same information effectively by way of email or memo, I often choose that route. I only present important information or news at a team meeting.
Snappy Team Feedback
We never close a meeting without asking for feedback. All of our team members know that feedback is held to the end of the meeting. We do not address or solve this feedback at our meeting. It is merely a designated time for each team member to state any concerns or comment on the items discussed and presented at the team meeting. Setting this time aside allows us to avoid many questions, comments or suggestions that would be made at other points in the meeting. The length of our meetings were cut down significantly when we implemented this system.
In addition, we often include games, giveaways or a chance to enter in for prizes and raffles. Meetings are kept to one hour or less. Cheers to leading your best meeting yet!
