Challenging Employees In The New Year

Even though 2018 was a stellar year for my team, I still want to challenge them in the new year. Even with success, there is still more we can do to improve our small business in 2019. One of the things I want to make sure we do is challenge our employees to improve on a personal and interpersonal level. There are many ways to do this, and I don’t assume I have the best ways. However, today I am going to go over  a few of my plans for challenging my team members as we move forward.

Challenging Employees In The New Year On A Personal Level

In order for people to be happy and healthy at work, I believe they also need to be committed to development in their personal time. This year we are putting a strong emphasis on inspiring information in our workplace. So, here are a few ideas for challenging personal development:

  • Have a reading contest with suggested books.
  • Incentivize going to the gym, walking on lunch breaks or drinking more water.
  • Hold a friendly contest for uplifting habits (such as the above!)
  • Give breaks during the day and designate a space to meditate…even if for 5 minutes at a time.
  • Have a tech-free time zone at work during or after hours…no emailing or texting.

Challenging Employees In The New Year Together

  • Form a Book Club or go through a work book together.
  • Encourage involvement in activities and events…some may be in the community or they may be at your own work place.
  • Set up days and times for your team to volunteer together.
  • Rearrange your work space or invent a new way of working with co-working space.
  • Mix up your team by creating pods or partners for projects that wouldn’t normally be together.

Forming A Wellness Committee

Having a Wellness Committee for your small business can be a wonderful benefit. You can just start off with the basics of sending out wellness or health and development information. As time goes on you can take it to the next level with events or initiatives. The committee can help keep your employees on track and come up with new challenges throughout the year!
