Day After Christmas Sales That Save You Money

First of all, do not get carried away! I find the week between Christmas and New Years is a HARD week to stay within my budget. Therefore, my advice is to check your budget and only go out shopping for the day with a clear head and some goals in mind. That being said, it is my favorite time of year for deals! In fact, I budget money for this purposely so I can shop guilt free this week!

My Favorite Stores

So, my favorite types of stores to scour for deals are not necessarily my favorite stores throughout the year. Although I love to shop this week, I do so with the purpose of saving and not splurging. Keeping that in mind, my top four stores for this week’s shopping are Meijer, Target, Hobby Lobby and Pier 1. Most of these stores will open back up with 50% off. Then some of them will go all the way to 75% off throughout the week.

Top Three Things I Look For – Day After Christmas

  1. Fancy Christmas Wrapping: The day after Christmas is when I buy all of my fancy paper and or “flair” for my gifts (think ribbons, special tags, bows and little ornaments or holly) for the next year. I also buy the boring stuff like boxes, tissue paper and some bags. Try to score some paper and tissue that are good for using throughout the year. This year I found white and black striped as well as rose gold and white polka dots. At 50-75% off you will save a BUNDLE not having to buy any wrapping throughout the year in small rolls at “Hallmark” prices.
  2. Valentine Gifts & Easter Basket Swag: Most chocolate and candy is loaded with preservatives and has at least a 3-6 month shelf life. Now I am not saying that you should save candy much past its expiration or that you should buy for Halloween. But, I have found that red, white and gold candy works great for Valentine’s and that white, gold and silver is fine for kid’s Easter baskets. You may also find trinkets and “stocking stuffers” that work fine for Easter and are non-perishable.
  3. Christmas Decorations & Gifts: The day after Christmas I love to stock up on fancy ornaments to use as gifts. These can run up to $15-$20 at stores like Pier 1 and Hobby Lobby. I can score these beautiful pieces at only $5! The next year I will use them as hostess gifts or for coworkers. This is also when  I buy for my home. We like adding something new each year. This year I got a $40 tree skirt for $12 at Meijer and a $65 outdoor wreath at Hobby Lobby for $20!
