Make Your List And Check It Twice…Or Three Times!
Thanksgiving is over and today is the biggest shopping day of the year! If you aren’t out shopping yet, you still have time to make your list. I recommend making a list ahead of time. On it you should include ideas as well as notes about where to purchase. How you track your spending and gift giving is very dependent on how many people you are buying for and what your traditions are.
When Should I Make My List?
The earlier, the better! The sooner you make your list, the sooner you can start budgeting, purchasing and planning. At the very least I would want my list made by Thanksgiving. That way I could peruse the many sale and “door-buster” items in-store and online this time of year.
Who Should I Include?
Include everyone you need to buy for. Keep in mind co-workers, teachers and anyone else you give a holiday gift to. I like to include those I send cards to and I even include stocking stuffers for those in my family. It is best to have the list complete to insure nothing is forgotten and everything is accounted for.
Some Tips For Saving
- Start as soon as possible. For some this could mean summertime or any point throughout the year that you can devote to some planning. The earlier you start, the more you spread out your cost and the more you can save. Organization goes a long way!
- Write it all down and keep all of your receipts in one place.
- Price checking an item is easier than ever! Look up your item online to make sure you are getting a great deal.
- Do not veer from your plan…stick with your plan and your budget to avoid spending regrets.
- Don’t procrastinate!
In closing, don’t forget the reason for the season! Handmade gifts, time and gifts of service are sometimes the most meaningful. A gift is not a measure of love and caring.
Happy Shopping!
