Purchasing Decisions…Is A Deal Really A Deal?
I was out shopping today and came across two purchases I really wanted to make. One consideration was purchasing workout clothes and the other was some side tables for our living room. I tried on the workout clothes at a popular chain clothing store and the hoodie I liked was a tad too small. Instead of falling prey to the “it’s okay I am sure I will lose 10 lbs” voice in my head, I looked online to see if they had my size.
Imagine the look on my face when I saw that not only did they have my size, but that the discount online was bigger than the one offered in the store! It should have been a look of happiness that I found a better deal. Instead of happiness, I was feeling a bit outraged that I was almost duped into paying more! This wasn’t looking for an item at a competitor’s store…this was the same brand store as I was standing in!
Do Your Homework
Try to have a plan before you buy. Whether this is a regular part of your budgeting or a last minute shopping trip, have a plan. Take a few minutes to write down what you are looking for and your goals for the trip.
Don’t Be Afraid To Ask Questions
Never feel bad about asking an associate to look up an item in a different size or style. Or check another store location for what you are looking for so you don’t need to compromise. I often ask if they have any deals coming up or an extra coupon I can use if I don’t have one.
Use Technology To Your Purchasing Advantage
We all walk around with computers in our hands! Use technology for your purchasing decisions. Just like I did with the workout clothes. You have the power to check online pricing with your device. Guess what? When I got home and looked up the side tables online from earlier today to get the measurements…they were an extra 10% off online too!
Make sure your deals are really deals this holiday season (and all year long too!)
