Pros & Cons Of Meal Kit Delivery For Your Budget
Have you tried a meal kit delivery service? My family has tried a few. There are many reasons I really enjoyed them. These include trying new recipes, learning cooking techniques and experiencing new flavor combinations. In addition, you don’t have to worry about missing any ingredients. On the other hand, we have had a few that don’t taste good. We have also forgotten to pause an order when we were on vacation. All of these opinions have lead me to this list of pros and cons.
Pros & Cons Of Meal Kit Delivery Service For Your Budget
The Pros:
Zero Food Waste: Most of these kits include everything you need for making your meal with the exception of olive oil and salt and pepper. There isn’t any ingredients left unused (think half a can of beans or half an onion) to eventually wind up in your trash.
Control Over Size: It is easy to make too much of a home-cooked meal. If your family is “good” at leftovers, this isn’t a big deal. But if those leftovers start to look like a science experiment in your fridge and eventually get tossed, the meal isn’t necessarily cost effective. With a meal kit delivery service you will be making perfect portions with no chance of going overboard on ingredients or portions.
Replaces Meals Eaten At Restaurants: If a meal kit delivery service keeps you from eating out at a restaurant, you will likely save yourselves a lot of dough. Restaurant meals can be overpriced and once it is all eaten, you still have to afford the tip!
The Cons:
Price Tag: Although there are some great coupons out there, they are often just introductory offers. The real cost of the service once your promotions have expired isn’t cheap. Generally when compared ingredient for ingredient, a meal kit delivery service is always more expensive.
Inflexibility: Many of these services brag about the options, the diet compliance and the “flexibility” of the service. That being said, they can’t handle certain types of allergies or intolerance’s. You also have to manage the so-called flexibility of the plan and there are cutoffs for customizing your orders or skipping a week. Miss the deadline? Waste the food and the money you spent!
Cost of Supplementation: Picky eaters? If you need to omit ingredients or supplement your chosen meal with other sides, salads, spices or more protein, your cost savings is wiped out!
Think through all of these points when considering if a meal kit delivery service is right for you!
