There is a lot of great events I am looking forward to in Livonia this February! We love our Livonia Community and the diversity of people, activities, neighborhoods and events it has to offer. There is something for everyone in the list below!

Friends of the Library Used Book Sale

It’s time once again for the Friends of the Library Used Book Sale!  The event will be held in the Robert and Janet Bennett Civic Center Library, 32777 Five Mile Road.  The sale runs Friday, Feb 2, and Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 4, from 1-5 p.m.

Hardcovers are $1, paperbacks are 50 cents and romances are 25 cents. CDs, videos, rare and collectibles are priced as marked.

Daddy Daughter Dance

Dads, treat your daughters to a special evening out on the town on Saturday, Feb. 3 at the Livonia Elk’s Lodge, 3117 Plymouth Road. Dances will take place from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Boogie down to our awesome DJ. Souvenir photos, snacks and refreshments are all part of the fun. Tickets are $8 per person for residents, $12 per person for non-residents and are available at the Kirksey Recreation Center.

Presidents & Pasta Luncheon at Greenmead Historical Park

Join us on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 12 p.m. for a presidential pasta luncheon at the Alexander Blue House. A guest speaker will present “Forgotten Presidents.”  Lunch will include pasta, vegetable, salad, and bread.  Refreshments and dessert also included.

Tickets are $25 in advance only.  Tickets are available at the Greenmead Office, 20501 Newburgh Road. Office hours are Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All tickets are non-refundable and on a first come, first serve basis. We regret that we are unable to accommodate walk-ins on the day of the event.

Cardboard Boat Races

Join us for the Cardboard Boat Races at the Jack E. Kirksey Recreation Center on Sunday, Feb. 18.  See see who can build the best boat in only 2 hours.  Boat building is from 1 – 3 p.m. and the race begins at 3:30 p.m.

Each team will be given the same amount of materials (duct tape, boxes, decorating materials and cutting utensils). No outside materials may be used. Teams are to build their boats in the MAC Gym. Prizes will be given out to the Most Creative Design,Fastest Boat in Livonia, and Heat Winners!

Winter Indoor Triathlon – Kirksey Rec Center Feb. 25

Registration is underway for the annual Indoor Triathlon Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Jack E. Kirksey Recreation Center, 15100 Hubbard.  The event attracted over 50 participants in 2017.  Participants compete in a 20 minute swim, 20 minute bike, and 20 minute run with 10 minute transition times between each event.  Swimming takes place in the 25 yard lap pool. Biking will be on upright stationary bikes. Running will be done on treadmills in the fit hub.

The registration fee of $35 includes a participation t-shirt and refreshments.
